Violinist Queenie Edwards is in her first season as a fellow with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She is an active orchestral and chamber musician, having performed concerts throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. She served as principal second violin of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra (Ind.) for the 2016-17 season, and has played concerts as section violinist in other regional orchestras including the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, Queenie traveled with the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchester on tour to China under the direction of German conductor, Christoph Eschenbach. She holds degrees from Indiana University, where she studied with Grigory Kalinovsky, Stanley Ritchie, and Desirée Ruhstrat.
Queenie currently is pursuing her Master of Music, studying with Sebastian Hamann at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Freiburg (Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany). She believes that music can enrich communities by positively influencing audience members from all walks of life, and is excited to be in Chicago this year to further pursue her orchestral studies and contribute to developing ways of integrating classical music into society.
