Dan Price, a native of Naperville, IL, joined the Civic Orchestra of Chicago as a regular member of the trumpet section in September 2017. He has performed with many fine orchestras throughout the United States and Europe including the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, New World Symphony, Spoleto Festival Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, and AIMS Graz Festival Orchestra. In addition to orchestral music, Dan enjoys playing in a wide array of other musical styles such as Chamber Music, Sacred Music, Jazz, and Musical Theater.
Dan attended Indiana University and the University of Georgia for his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, respectively. At Indiana, he studied with esteemed trumpet performer and pedagogue, John Rommel and at Georgia he was under the tutelage of the world-renowned 30+ year Principal Trumpet of the New York Philharmonic, Philip Smith. He has also studied extensively with Carole Reinhart, a celebrated soloist and the first female Brass Department Chair at Vienna’s Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst.
By taking part in the Civic Orchestra’s Fellowship program, Dan hopes to grow both as a musician and an educator. He has been an active teacher for over ten years and relishes the opportunity to learn new ways to connect and engage with students.
When not playing the trumpet, Dan loves spending time outdoors, cooking, reading, and discussing politics and philosophy.
