Matt Baker, a native of Novi Michigan, recently finished his Master of Music degree at Northwestern University where he also completed his undergraduate studies in 2013. This is Matt’s second year as a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and he is thrilled to be a member of the Fellowship program where he is able to perform and share music throughout the city of Chicago.
Professionally, Matt aspires to have a full-time orchestra position and recently had the opportunity to perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the batons of James Levine and Jaap van Zweden. As a soloist, Matt has been named a two time finalist at the National Trumpet Competition. Matt is an active teacher and freelancer, recent credits include Josh Groban’s Stages tour, Cirque Musica, and the New York Symphonic Ensemble’s 2016 Japan tour.
When he’s not playing the trumpet Matt enjoys fantasizing about being a hockey player and supporting the Detroit Red Wings.
